Florence – Recently while cruising through North Florence we noticed that the street next to Highland Baptist Church was barricaded off and traffic was being detoured. It was a good thing too, because right in the middle of the street sat the steeple from atop of the church Always curious as to why and what was happening we stopped and talked to Terry Woodis, owner of Champion Roofing in Sheffield. Woodis told us ” We had to take the steeple off of the church to enable us to finish applying the new roof shingles underneath it. Since the steeple is a separate unit that sits on the roof the only way to roof under it is to remove it.”
To actually do the removal of the steeple, the company that manufactured the steeple was called in to assist in removal and re-assemble of the steeple. Campbellville Industries, of Campbellville, Kentucky, (http://www.cvilleindustries.com) sent two of their steeplejacks to do the job, Billy Squires and Troy Jenkins, both experienced hands at the placement of steeples told us it was “just another day at the office.” With the help of Crane Operator James Dawson, Methvin Crane & Rigging, Florence, the job was completed without a hitch.
