Christine Wilkes Pitts of Fayetteville passed away on August 9, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born on January 18, 1932 in Merrimack Cotton Mill Village in Huntsville, AL to the late Elvia and Defna Challen Clayton Wilkes. She married the late Malcolm Pitts at a young age and was the mother to seven children. While still raising the youngest of her children, she ran Howell Hill Grocery for several years and then worked at Blue Ridge Manufacturing and Serbin. She later achieved her GED and worked at South Central Human Resources Agency as a data entry clerk, where she was the runner up for the National Senior Worker of the Year Award. She was a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church and taught the Senior Adult Sunday School class there for many years.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Gibson of Fayetteville, TN, Linda Hopper of Huntsville, AL, Michele King of Flintville, TN; sons, Anthony Pitts of Robertsdale, AL, Terry Pitts of Fayetteville, TN Tim Pitts of Winchester, TN and Bruce Pitts of Huntsville, AL; sisters, Marilyn Tarbbitt, Nellie Jo Williams, Cheryl Hruby; 8 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Cartwright and brothers, Bill Wilkes and Clyde Wilkes

Funeral service for Mrs. Pitts will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Cleo Moon officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday at 12 PM until time of service at Higgins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., 207 N. Jackson Street, Tullahoma, TN 37388. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Christine Wilkes Pitts.
