Christine “Chris” Clements Moore, age 84, of Dora, transitioned to Heaven on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a member of the Sumiton Church of God.
Chris was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on November 14, 1940, to Rev. Verner & Una (McAllister) Clements. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1959 and continued her education close to home at The University of Alabama where she graduated with a degree in Education in 1962. Her career in education would take her to jobs in Alabama, Florida, New Mexico, and California as she followed her husband’s naval assignments. She was employed in education almost 40 years. Most of that time, she served as a school librarian surrounded by books and children. She taught 30 years in Pickens County at both Aliceville Elementary and Gordo Elementary. Chris retired from teaching in 2003. She devoted the next couple of years to spoiling her grandson Will.
Chris was a humble servant of the Lord. She served faithfully in various roles in church throughout her life. Her devotion was evident in word and deed. As her health declined and she was no longer able to attend her church, she faithfully watched every church service at home on television.
Before her health declined, Chris enjoyed games of all kinds. She and her husband were often found on Senior Adult game nights at Northport Church of God, playing games with their dear friends.
Chris delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She celebrated their accomplishments and loved them dearly. In 2017, she and Jim moved to Dora to be closer to their family.
Besides her Lord, the love of Chris’s life was her husband, Jim. They were loving, affectionate, and devoted to each other and their families for 60+ years.
Chris enjoyed traveling. She and Jim enjoyed many trips together and with family and friends. One of Chris’s favorite trips was a road trip with family to Colorado. Chris’s last trip took her into the presence of the Lord.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Verner J. Clements and Una McAllister Clements, paternal grandparents, Jesse Clements and Dora Barger Clements, and maternal grandparents, John McAllister and Janie Christine Ashley McAllister.
Chris is survived by her husband, James Edward “Jim” Moore, daughter, Alicia “Lisa” Stephens, son-in-law, Randy Stephens, grandchildren, Eric Stephens, Amy Hall (Jeremy), and Will Fanning, great-grandchildren, Ben Stephens, Stephen Hall, and Mary-Elizabeth Hall, sisters, Pauline Williams, Beatrice Kelly (Jimbo), and Nellie Vice, brother-in-law, Bill Moore (Phyllis), sisters-in-law, Maudie McGill, Margie Van Osdol (Tom), Gerldine Moore, Bessie Moore, Shirley Morgan (Robert), Judy Meadows, and Sharon Meadows, the Stephens Family, Martha Stephens, Debbie Hubbard, Donna Harbin, the Willis Family, Bruce and Rhonda, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring professionals at Gentiva Hospice and her wonderful caregivers Diane, Bethany, Margarette, and Tammie.
When you think of Chris, read a book to a child, hug someone you love, play a game, say a prayer, and laugh.
