Child Dies After Being Rescued From Drain Pipe At TVA Rockpile

MUSCLE SHOALS –On Wednesday, June 7, around 2:30 PM  Colbert 911 answered a call for a possible drowning at the TVA Reservation at the waterfall located in The Rock Pile Pile Recreation Area near Wilson Dam.

A 12-year-old girl was trapped in the drain pipe of the waterfall and emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to remove her from the  pipe.

Muscle Shoals Rescue was able to free the girl from the pipe and she was taken by ambulance to Helen Keller Hospital where according to authorities she died from her injuries.

Tennessee Valley Authority has released this statement regarding the incident:

“TVA would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the child at this difficult time. We have secured the area and are working with the local authorities to understand how this tragedy occurred.”

Officials say that TVA and Sheffield Police are handling the investigation.
