6418023FLORENCE-Florence resident, and 17 year old Chase Holcombe is happy to announce his candidacy for Florence City Council out of District 5. Chase and his campaign team, comprised almost completely of youth, are excited at the prospect of making a difference in Florence City Government. The election will be held in August of 2016.

Chase Holcombe is a rising senior at Florence High School and plans on studying at The University of North Alabama, beginning next fall. Chase is no stranger to the public spotlight. A few of his major accomplishments include working as a commentator on the National award winning Florence High School Broadcast Team, serving currently as the president of the Alabama Student Council Association, being named student of the year for Florence High School in the spring of 2015, and working on many political

campaigns.

It is no secret that Holcombe is a young candidate. He will barely be old enough to vote for himself in the election next year as he will have turned 18 the month before. Chase put out the statement, “We are beginning to develop a dangerous precedent that someone has to be over 50 to get involved and make a difference in Florence city politics. I’m not one to sit on the sidelines, I want to change that!” He also stated that he would like to bring the fiscal conservatism to the city council that it so desperately needs. One major concern fueling Chase’s run is the Florence Recycling Program. “They’re running a terrible business model,” Chase said, “We lost $679,673 in 2014 alone.” He advocates reform to the program and/or contracting it out if at all possible. Chase is sure that his campaign will attract grass roots and youth support as he is both a grassroots and youthful candidate.
