Charlotte Halliburton Watkins Canon – Obituary

A memorial service for Charlotte Halliburton Watkins Canon, 91, of Falkville, will be held Friday, March 13, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence, Alabama. The Rev. John McKell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Canon died March 7, 2015, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Paris, Tennessee to Charles H. Watkins and Bertie Greer Watkins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor W.

Mackintosh, her twin brother, Charles H. Watkins Jr., and by her husband, Ruffin Sledge Canon.

Mrs. Canon was a graduate of the University of Memphis, served as church bookkeeper for 25 years, and was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, PCUSA. She was also a longtime member of PEO Chapter S, a book club that rarely read books, a sewing club that rarely sewed, and a bridge club that did play cards.

Mrs. Canon is survived by her daughters, Amelia B. Canon of Hartselle, Alabama, and Eleanor K. Canon, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and many much loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence, Alabama.
