Charlotte Devere (Belue) Perrett, affectionately known as “MaDear,” was born on September 14, 1921, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. After 105 beautiful years of life, love, faith, and cherished memories, she peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Charlotte was the seventh of ten children born to the late Henry Belue and Rebecca Winston Belue. She was one of four daughters and five sons, all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Ronald Green (Veronica).
Her Faith and Spiritual Journey
At an early age, Charlotte accepted Christ and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church, where she became an active and faithful member. She received her education in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and proudly graduated from Trenholm High School.
Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. After the passing of her husband, J.P. “Jerry” Perrett, Charlotte returned to her beloved Alabama and reunited with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. There, she served as a Mother of the Church and faithfully attended Sunday worship services until her health no longer permitted. Her unwavering faith and devotion to God were evident in the way she lived, loved, and cared for others.
A Life of Love, Family, and Dedication
Charlotte was a gifted and outstanding seamstress who developed her sewing skills at a young age. Her talent remained with her throughout her life, and her hands were rarely without purpose.
Above all, Charlotte devoted her life to raising and nurturing her children and grandchildren. Her home was a place of love, wisdom, comfort, and guidance. She later married J.P. “Jerry” Perrett, and together they moved to Detroit, Michigan, where they continued raising their family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Mattie Johnson of Spring Valley, Ala.; James Freeman (Marjorie) of Killeen TX; Barbarise Green of Muscle Shoals, Ala; and Jerry Perrett (Debra) of Detroit MI; stepdaughter Cora James and one daughter-in-law Veronica Green of Waynesboro, TN; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 32 great, great grandchildren and 6 great, great great grandchildren; Her beloved niece Edith Mae Shaw of Muscle Shoals Ala and nephew Stanford Belue of Detroit MI and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and children she claimed who will forever remember her.
Her legacy is not measured only by the 105 years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched, the wisdom she shared, and the generations of family who will continue to carry her love forward.
