Funeral Service for Mr. Charlie Ray Swancey, age 51 of Ashland, will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Jimmy Brand and Bro. Allen Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. Swancey passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at RMC in Anniston. A lifelong resident of Clay County, He attended school in both Ashland and Lineville. Mr. Swancey worked for Russell Manufacturing as a screen printer and worked in construction equipping chicken houses. Mr. Swancey retired from work in 1995 due to a car accident that left him a paraplegic. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dominoes, and shooting pool, all of which he was very competitive. He was a loving father and grandfather, enjoyed making people laugh, picking at people and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Brittany Swancey (Dontavious Hardy), of Ashland; his 2 grandchildren: Caylex and Kayleona Woodruff; his mother, Oleen Brand of Ashland; 2 sisters: Sheila Nelson (Terry) of Goodwater and Sandra Upchurch (Wendell Waldrop) of Ashland; 2 nieces: Kasey Clark (Adam) of Lineville and Kayla Garcia (Jeremy) of Lineville; 4 nephews: Jason Brand (Melissa) of Goodwater, Jody Brown (Stacey) of Ashland, Jeremy Brown (Nicole) of Ashland, Jared Brown (Jamie) of Lineville; a host of great- nieces, great-nephews, and a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Lily Irvin, and one sister, Sherry Brown.
Active Pallbearers will be Timmy Summerlin, Justin Summerlin, Tony McClellan, Jason Jordan, Adam Clark, Jeremy Garcia, Jason Brand, and Terry Nelson.
Honorary Pallbearers are J.J. Jordan and Caylex Woodruff.
His visitation will take place on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
