Charlie F. Thornton, 95, of Walnut passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. A Private family service is set for Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Magnolia Funeral Home – East Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Union Cemetery in Chalybeate, MS. Rev. James Thornton and Rev. Larry McDonald will officiate the service.
Born June 8, 1926 in Walnut, MS., Charlie was a farmer and of the Pentecostal faith. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed gardening, doing word search puzzles, picking up cans, playing cards and checkers at C. D. Alsups’ Store, hunting and telling jokes. Charlie loved spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren to sing and dance.
Charlie is survived by his sons, James W. Thornton (Linda Kay) and David F. Thornton (Shiella) all of Walnut; his daughters, Shirley Gene Patterson (Jimmy Dale) of Middleton, TN., Peggy Joyce Rich (Jerry of Tiplersville, MS., Sarrah Ruth McDonald (Rev. Larry) and Mary Charlene Swinford all of Corinth; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Sue Thornton of Walnut; sister, Mamie Ruth Stephenson of Walnut; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth “Maggie” Thornton; son, Charlie Wayne Thornton; grandson, Martin Wayne Thornton; great grandson, Dawson Keymon; father, M.C. Thornton; mother, Rosalie Thornton; brothers, Luther Thornton, Homer Thornton, Morris Wayne Thornton and Richard Thornton; sisters, Lucille Thompson, Virginia Camburn and Elsie Pannell.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Swinford, Jeremy McDonald, Jimmy Wayne Patterson, Jerry Allen Rich, James Wilbanks, Brandon Dickerson and Danny Keymon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Patterson, Jesse James and Shawn Thornton. Magnolia Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Charlie F. Thornton.
