Charlie “Chigger” Hughes

Mr. Charlie “Chigger” Hughes, 82, of Hazel Green, passed away on Friday at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Hughes was a Christian and served almost nine years in the United States Air Force.   He loved his family and enjoyed farming, Alabama football, and the Atlanta Braves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.T. and Ellen Hughes;  His brothers, Leon Hughes, Herman Hughes, Billy Hughes, and Eugene “Bud” Hughes;  His sisters: Earline Hughes and Margie Cothren.

Surviving family members include his wife of 64 years, Lois Hughes;  His son, Jeffrey Hughes and his wife, Kelly;  His grandchildren: Coty Hughes and his wife, Heather, Jacob Hughes, and Haley Hughes;  His great-granddaughter, Victoria Hughes;  His brothers, Bobby Hughes, Malcolm Hughes, and Eurskin Hughes; His sisters, Mary Hobbs and Gail Colbert.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:30pm at the funeral home with Pastor Lon Ostrzycki officiating.  Burial will follow in Charity Cemetery.
