Charles William Staggs Sr., age 78, of Tuscumbia, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Johnson and Royce Walker.
Mr. Staggs was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 82nd Airborne in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the DAV, Sheffield Masonic Lodge 503, VFW Post 4919 and the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge of Florence. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a car enthusiast, an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Parksey and Bethel Staggs; brother, Thomas; sisters, Betty Walker and Peggy Johnson; and beloved dog, “Sassy.”
Survivors include his son, Charles “Chuck” Staggs Jr.; daughter, Twila Godwin; brothers, Jimmy and J. Cleburne Staggs; sister, Lola Staggs; granddaughter, Amber Godwin; great-grandson, Bentley Godwin; and several loving nieces and nephews.
