Charles William Rice – Obituary

The funeral service for Charles William Rice, age 88 of Jacksonville, formerly of Lineville, will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Allen Webster and Chance Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery.

Mr. Rice passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Jacksonville Health & Rehabilitation Center. A Randolph County native and former resident of Calhoun County, he settled in Clay County in 1967 where he lived for most of the rest of his life. Mr. Rice had worked for 29 years as a crane operator for the Alabama Pipe Company then worked for 14 more years for Southwire Inc. He also served as a bus driver for the Cheaha Mental Health Center in Lineville. Mr. Rice was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Meads (Butch) of Piedmont; one son, Dennis C. Rice (Deborah) of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Andrew Rice and Minnie Belle Mote Rice; his wife of 61 years, Frances “Dot” Rice; one son, Christopher L. Rice; six sisters: Leigley Rice, Ida McDonald, Ola Yarbrough, Ollie Cofield, Velma Hill and Ruth McClendon; two brothers: Andrew Rice and John Brinton Rice.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville in charge of the arrangements.
