On November 23, 2022, Charles Wayne “Butch” Maddox departed this life to be eternally with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Butch was born in Jackson TN on July 10, 1942, to Charles A. Maddox and Hallie Mae Davenport Maddox. He grew up in Medina, TN, attended Fairview School, and graduated from North Side High School in 1960. He was drafted in 1964 and served in the US Army, stationed in Korea for 13 months. He met the love of his life, Glenda Nicholson, on May 4,1966 and they were married on January 8, 1967. The most important decision of his life came on March 3, 1974, when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He and Glenda served at Southside Baptist Church for 35 years and then at First Baptist Church Bemis for nearly 17 years. Among the areas in which he served, his main passion was in reading and studying the Bible, and teaching Sunday School and Bible classes, which he did each week for nearly 48 years. He was a faithful and diligent student of God’s Word.
He worked in banking for 26 years, beginning at First National Bank and served in various roles including Vice President. He retired from banking in 1988 and then worked in industrial supply management and purchasing roles for the next 21 years. He retired from HCI Supply in 2009. Among the various traits that he had, he will be remembered primarily as a faithful Christian, a devoted and loving husband, a faithful father, father-in-law, Papaw, friend, and cherished teacher of God’s Word. He will be remembered fondly for his joyous and jovial spirit, and the sincere “Amen!”, “Preach on!”, and other words of affirmation he would give during a sermon or church service. He will be missed dearly.
Butch is survived by his daughter Cindy Harris (Wes), son Mark Maddox (Heather) and grandchildren Lydia, Nathan and Caleb Maddox; Roland and Emily Harris.
He was preceded in death by his wife Glenda, and his parents Charles A. and Hallie Mae Maddox.
