Charles Waldrop Sheffield – Obituary

Charles Waldrop Sheffield, 82, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at the VA Hospital in Memphis. He was born July 18, 1932, in Itawamba County to Stanley Arthur and Francis Myrtle Moore Sheffield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having spent two years in active duty during the Korean War. He served in the 56th and 3rd quarter master division in Fort Lee, Virginia. He worked a variety of jobs, the first with Savings Oil Company Store in Tupelo. He also worked for a division of U.S. Steel, at a service station, in timber, with Donald Snipes Cattleman for 15 years, and the Mississippi Highway Department, where he retired after 18 years. He was a deacon of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Mantachie. He enjoyed cattle farming.

Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday, February 28, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Bob Ward and Bro. Ed Easley officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Annie Sheffield; three sons, Bobby Joe Sheffield (Karen Marie) of Sherman, James Arthur Sheffield (Tabitha) of Mooreville, and Relvin “Rebel” Sheffield (Christine) of Blue Springs; one sister, Delores Kissinger of Texas; seven grandchildren, Jamie Sheffield, Bradley Sheffield, Carrie Coward, Mary Beth Sheffield, Joel Sheffield, Timothy Hallmark, and Melissa Clayton; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Pete Sprouse, Billy White, Alan Simmons, Dwight Simmons, Jay Lansdale, Andy Simmons, Ricky Plunkett, and Billy Gordon.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday and from 9 a. m. until service time Saturday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
