Charles W. “Chuck” Shaffer, age 75, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He was born October 20, 1942, in Miami, FL to Frank and Gladys Thrift. In honor of his request, there will be no funeral service.
Chuck was the publisher of Old Tennessee Valley Magazine for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the research and study of our southern history, and all the unique characters who made us who we are. He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Shaffer, Jr., and two brothers, Robert and Bill.
He is survived by Jo, his wife of 32 years; daughter, Kristin Jones (Carlos) of Camden, TN; stepson, Jack Sivadon (Roxanne) of Westville, IN; brother, Frank Thrift of Merritt Island, FL; sister, Lois Johnston (Noel) of Orange City, FL; and grandchildren, Amber Bird, Tifani Bradford, Brett Sivadon, Savannah Sivadon, and Brody Sivadon.
