Charles Ross Wilson, 79, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi, worked as a jeweler, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member and deacon of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Services will be Sunday, July 16, 11 a.m., at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Golden, Mississippi, with Brother Jimmy Dale Sartain officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery, Red Bay, Alabama. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama, will be in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Wilson; two children, Kerri Blaylock (Tony) Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Charles Eddie Wilson (Sarah), Killen, Alabama; two grandchildren, Russ Blaylock (Jenny) and Whitney Winchester (Jeff); two great-grandchildren, Charlee Winchester and Maverick Winchester; eight brothers and sisters, James Robert Wilson (Floyce), John Wilson (Sandra), Gerald “Jerry” Wilson (Jimmie Lou), Lanny Wilson (Becky), Judy Rogers (Lowell), Shirley Whitfield, Janice Shepard (Michael), and Jackie Lucas (Jimmy); a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and brother-in-law – Charles Stone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Gordy Wilson and Eva Ledbetter Wilson; two sisters, Brenda Wilson and Helen Stone; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Whitfield.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Poplar Springs Baptist Church: Tony Enis Jr. Cromeans, Gary Watson, Steve Jones, Leamon Lindsey, and Jimmy Lucas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Poplar Springs Life Center, 7210 Fairview Banner Rd., Golden, MS 38847.
Visitation will be today, 6-9 p.m., at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama, and he will lie in state Sunday, July 16, 10-11 a.m., at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
