Charles Robert Morris, age 81 of Sherwood passed away at his residence on Wednesday June 10, 2020. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Morris was born on March 8, 1939 to the late William Robert and Mattie Lou Holt Morris. He was employed with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 33 years before his retirement in 1997, and served with the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Cowan, and then in his later years he attended the Sherwood Episcopal Church. He was a hardworking man that loved to tinker and work on various mechanical things including lawn mowers. Mr. Morris loved to spend time cutting wood, which helped him earn the nickname “Chainsaw.” In his free time he greatly enjoyed going fishing and hunting, watching westerns, attending the fiddler jamboree, and going to the flea market. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Emalene Morris; daughter, Connie Kay Sells; sister, Elizabeth (John) Jackson; half siblings, Maggie Stubblefield, Walter Morris, Willie Morris, John Morris, James Morris; and brother-in-law, George Lappin. He is survived by his sisters, Julie “Judy” (Myles)Thomas of Nashville, Kate Lappin of Sherwood; grandsons, Daniel (Amber) Sells of Sherwood, Rusty (Ashley) Sells of Cowan; great- grandchildren Julie Grace Hill, Luke Daniel Sells, Maecie Marie Sells, Scarlett Kay Sells; son-in-law, Danny Sells of Sherwood; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Orvie Haney of Sherwood. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 12, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday June 13, 2020 in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Nance officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Sherwood.
