charlesCharles R. West, 84, of Courtland passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Rev. Scotty Letson officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. West was born March 19, 1931 in Hagertown, Maryland to Harvey M. and Mae Elizabeth West. He was a loving father and devoted husband. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Mr. West was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. He served in the Korean War and in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Mr. West started a private security business and provided security services to Champion Paper Mill for many years. He then worked several years at H.A. Pippen Hardware Store in Courtland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yuri Shino West; his parents; and his sister, Doris Sigley.
Survivors include sons, Richard (Pat) West of Murphy, North Carolina, Robert (Sheryl) West of Tuscumbia, Donald (Linda) West of Tazewell, Tennessee and Billy (Rhonda) West of Trinity; stepbrother, John H. Hixon, Jr. (Betty) of Amarillo, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David West, Steven West, Jason West, Justin West, Jonathan West and Nathan Duke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Hospice of the Valley (Decatur) or to Courtland Baptist Church Building Fund.
