Charles R. Grider, 76, of New Hope, passed away Saturday at his residence.
Mr. Grider was an avid believer in community service up until the time of his death. He was a volunteer firefighter with the City of New Hope, a founding member of the New Hope Rescue Squad, and served as a member on numerous boards on the state and local levels for over 25 years. Mr. Grider was a proud member of the New Hope Lions Club. He was a member of Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ for over 9 years. Mr. Grider was retired after 39 years as a Superintendent for ALDOT.
He was preceded in death by wife, Mildred Payton Grider; father, A.R. Grider; mother, Louie Grider; granddaughter, Chloe Watson; son in law, Bo Watson; sisters, Lorene Grider, and Adena Roberts; brothers, Howard Grider, Bobby Grider, and Billy Grider.
Surviving are daughter, Tina (Tommy) Bush; son, Russell (Teresa) Grider; daughter, Amanda Watson; grandchildren, Kelsey M. (Beau) Hill, Timothy and Johnathan Watson; sister, Martha Franks; several nieces and nephews; special friend of seven years, Kay Davis.
Pallbearers will be the New Hope Volunteer Firefighters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wonnie Fisher, Junior Martin, Dwight Fisher, Billy Colburn, and Carlos Barrentine.
Visitation will be Monday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home, Tuesday at 2:00 PM with Bro. Harold Kelly officiating.
Interment will be in the Hayden Cemetery.
