Charles Junior Pogue

Charles Junior Pogue, known to family and friends as Junior, passed away in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 10, 2023. He was born on November 25, 1940, in Madison County, Alabama, to the late James Edgar and Mattie Mae Massey Pogue.

Junior was a gifted handyman and will be remembered for his humor and his adventurous spirit. He was a faithful member of the Hazel Green Free Holiness Church. Camping was one of his favorite hobbies.

Junior’s legacy of love is carried on by his family, including his devoted wife of 61 years, Shirley Mason Pogue. His memories will continue to live in the hearts of his children and their spouses: Randy & Betty Pogue, Angie Hillis, Tina & Steve McAnally, and Luther & Samantha Pogue. He was especially proud of his grandchildren – Jason Pogue, Sherry West, Emily Jones, Olivia Mearse, Trey Peden, Kelly Alonso, and Travis Pogue. They, along with his surviving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, will remember Junior’s humor, kindness, and love for his family and friends. He also leaves behind his sister, Ezella McNeese.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dale Hillis; his siblings: James Pogue, John Robert “Bill” Pogue, Eugene Pogue, Audrey Pogue, Lawrence Pogue, sister, Louise Durham; and two grandchildren, Brandy Pogue George and Lonnie Dale Hillis Jr.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday beginning at 11am at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1pm at the funeral home with Brother Guindal Knight and Brother Mike Keel officiating. Burial will then be in Miller Cemetery in the Plevna community.
