Charles J. Clayton, 91, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born February 4, 1934, in Itawamba County, to Charlie and Corrinne Loden Clayton. He was a faithful member of the Union Chapel Church of God, where he served as the treasurer for 33 years. He worked at Boyd’s Wholesale Floral business for many years. He then worked at Itawamba Community College in maintenance and as a security guard. After retirement, he mowed yards for the public. He was a member of the volunteer fire departments at Dorsey-Friendship and later at Fairview and was a member of the Dorsey Lions Club. He was an avid Republican and staunch Trump supporter.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jim Mooney and Bro. C.W. Franks officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Amelia Knight (Keith) of Mantachie and Cecelia Russell of Booneville; one stepson, Jerry Spencer of Fulton; one sister, Mary Gillentine of Fulton; five grandchildren, Kevin Knight, Kerry Knight (Tiffany), Kelly Wayne Knight (Stacy), Carrie Walker (David), and Tabitha Spencer; six great grandchildren, Addie Belle Knight, Deacon Knight, Lexi Black, Saige Black, Hayden Walker, and Hunter Walker.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Martha Edge; his wife, Lanell Spencer; one son, Jimmie Spencer; one brother, James Clayton; two sisters, Winona Sheffield and June Comer; and his parents.
Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home.
