Mr. Charles Henry Banks was born in Lexington, KY to the late Charles and Emma Fay Clemons Banks. Charles was educated in the public school system of Lexington, KY.
Charles, (Malik as he was known in Atlanta, Georgia,) accepted Christ at an early age.
He worked tirelessly to keep the Lord first in his life. Charles (Malik) had a marvelous baritone/bass voice and sang in the church choir while he resided nearly 28 years in Atlanta. He often called upon to sing solos on Sundays.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Linda Young, three brothers: Larry Edwards, Glenn Banks and Stephen Banks.
Bro. Charles Henry Banks departed this life on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Charles has
been residing in Jackson, TN since August 7, 2018 with his domestic partner, Bobbi Lee Jones. The couple met 36 years ago in Atlanta, GA where Charles (Malik) met Ms. Jones at the downtown Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library where Ms. Jones was employed as a Supervisory Library Manager. Both Aquarians, they most often could complete each one’s thoughts and/or sentences. Charles worked as a Graphic Artist for two prestigious Architectural Firms in downtown Atlanta for many years. Charles’s downtown offices allowed his regularly visiting Ms. Jones’s office for research support and guidance.
Since Charles’s relocation to Jackson, the two domestic partners stayed on “ready, set, travel”: from New York to California to Alaska and on and on. The great fulfillment they shared between themselves was unmatched. They both were constantly in awe of each other. The visual and performing arts kept the two socially and culturally jointed. With God’s constant favor, they worked untiringly to be the absolute best to one another. The joys in life and the aesthetics propelled them to unimaginable heights. Charles And Bobbi became “one” on every progressive plane thanks to God the “Heavenly” Father.
Mr. Banks graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1975 and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi; Eta Alpha Graduate Chapter at EKU.
Charles (Malik) leaves to cherish his memories: a brother, Rev. Ronald Young of Dallas, TX, two sisters, Pauline Lewis and Bernice Logan from Louisville, KY, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Extra thanks to Larry Edwards from Lexington, KY, Stephanie Fay and Chase from Louisville, KY.
Lastly, Bobbi Jones who was domestic partner and confidante to “Malik” for all the glorious years between the two since 1986 in Atlanta: unspeakable joy and contentment they shared.
