Charles Harbin “Charlie” Schmidt – Obituary

Charles Harbin “Charlie” Schmidt, age 46, of Huntsville, died on Wednesday April 2, 2014.

Mr. Schmidt was a lifelong Huntsville native, a political scientist, accomplished guitarist, naturalist, dedicated mandolinist, connoisseur of obscure bluegrass music, benefactor of the vision impaired, beloved son, and companionable brother. He is preceded in death by his father, Morrie Schmidt, who was retired from NASA as an aerospace engineer for 30 plus years, starting at NASA when they began; his Aunt, Sally Harbin Long; and his Uncle, Melvin Schmidt.

Mr. Schmidt is survived by his mother, Susan Harbin Schmidt of Westminster SC; his brother Bill Schmidt of Delray Beach, FL; by his aunt, Annetta Faye Parke; and his uncles, Donald Ray Parke and Rev. C. Grady Long; and a panopleatic array of cousins. His loss is felt deeply.

Memorial services will be on Monday April 7th at 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Huntsville. The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm at the church.
