CMSGT Charles E. Fryer CMSGT Charles E. Fryer, age 97 of Decherd, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. All of those that knew him in the area surrounding Decherd simply loved and respected him. Charles Elbert Fryer cut a path in his almost 98 years and will be long remembered as one of the kindest, most sincere, benevolent, and community-spirited souls to ever traverse these parts. Unforgettable Charlie, after five and a half months of illness, took his seat at the heavenly throne of his beloved Savior. He began his reward on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Elk River of Ardmore Rehabilitation Center. He was a devout Christian and active member of First Baptist Church of Estill Springs where he served as Deacon for many years. He served thirty-five years in the armed forces during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He was born on April 12, 1923 in Covington, Tennessee, one of ten children to the late Roy and Irene Fryer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Muriel E. Fryer; brothers, Harold and Talmadge; and sister, Ruth Lopez. Charles is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Harwell of Brighton, Tennessee, and Sue (George) Erickson of Virginia; brothers, Lanier Fryer of Memphis, Marvis (Angie) Fryer of Knoxville, and Gerald Fryer of Covington; sons, Gary Lane Fryer and Michael Fryer, both of Decherd; daughter, Cheryl E. Taylor of Decherd; and close friend, Roger D. Lucas. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 12, 2020 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. John Segree officiating.
