Charles David King, age 85 of Winchester, Tennessee, died on October 7, 2024, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center. He was born in Gibson County, Tennessee, on November 17, 1938, to the late George Songer and Violet Mae (James) King. He was a 1957 graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee, where he was a star athlete and honors student. He attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship. He served in the US Army from 1959–1965, achieving the rank of SP5 (P) E-5. He was a journeyman electrician. He belonged to the American Legion Post #44. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Aubrey and George; and sisters Phyllis, Mary and Jeanie. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; children, Kerstin (Ben) Beavers of Sewanee, Tennessee, Kris (Lee) Glendening of Bellingham, Washington, and Mark (Flor) King of Collierville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Sarah Beavers and John Beavers of Sewanee, Tennessee, Graham Glendening of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Charles King and Luciana King of Collierville, Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elk River and Amedisys Hospice, and special family friends Vicki Hall and Joe Walker.

No funeral services are planned. Interment of ashes will be private. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the American Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
