Charles David Dunlap passed away Sunday November 16, 2014, at the age of 87. Mr. Dunlap was born December 3, 1926, in Sharon, TN, to Marcus Sylvester and Lura Taylor Dunlap. He graduated in 1944 from Sharon High School. He was in the Army Air Corps and was discharged in late 1945. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering degree. Mr. Dunlap’s first job was with TVA in Knoxville, TN. After three years, he took a job with Goodyear Atomic Corp in Piketon, Ohio. In August 1956, he went to work at Chemstrand Corp in Decatur. He retired in January 1985 and went to work for the Army Missile Command in Huntsville, retiring in April 1994. Mr. Dunlap was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 58 years. During his younger years, he was active in the church. His volunteer activities included Meals on Wheels, Rebuilding Together, Hospice and tutoring with A.C. Banks Academy.
Mr. Dunlap is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judy Dunlap; brothers, Leon Dunlap, Duane Dunlap and Bob Dunlap. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Charline; two daughters, Liz Brogdon (Paul) and Mary Anne Dunlap; son, David Marcus Dunlap (Holly); grandchildren, Aja Brogdon Duncan, Taylor Brogdon, Causey Taylor Dunlap, David Marcus Dunlap Jr.; and great-grandson, Jones Robert Duncan.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Formby and the Rev.Mitchell Williams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, Hospice or Central United Methodist Church.
