Charles Christian “Chris” Evans, www.cutshallfuneralhome.com 48, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis, TN. He was a 1983 graduate of Iuka High School where he served as president of his senior class. He was an Eagle Scout and received his God and Country Award and was tapped for the Order of the Arrow Award in the Yocona Area Council. Chris attended Northeast Community College where he was a member of the Northeast Marching Band and graduated from Mississippi State University in December 1986. He attended University of Mississippi Law School. Chris spent two summers as an intern for Senator Thad Cockran in Washington, D.C.. He was a history scholar and he enjoyed speaking about local history to school groups and clubs. He worked for the Social Security Administration until his health failed. Chris was a writer and wrote a column in the local newspaper, “My Hero, My Friend”. He enjoyed interviewing the people he wrote about, especially veterans, and often called them to thank them for their service. Chris was a music enthusiast and with his brother John hosted a blues radio show called “Sunday Blues” on WOWL 91.9. Chris was a member of Iuka Baptist Church where he enjoyed working with Awanas, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner, and was a member of the Iuka Lions Club.Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 until 8:30 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, 2013, at Iuka Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jon Kaufman and Phillip Ogden. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery in Fulton, MS. Pallbearers include Evan Adams, Ben Patton, Kevin Maten, Jason Guntharp, Johnny Southward, Danny Bean, Darryl Long, Jeff Lyles. Honorary Pallbearers include Mack Lloyd Wadkins, Billy McKissick, Bro. Aubrey Brown and Hubert Rhay Robinson. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Donna Lindsey Evans of Iuka, MS; his mother, Wanda Christian Evans of Iuka, MS; 2 stepdaughters, Melissa Borden (Joey) of Iuka and Amanda Cole (Dustin) of Booneville, MS; 1 stepson, Donald Rodgers (Lane) of Iuka; 1 brother, John Evans (Jennie) of Iuka; a mother in law, Josephine Lindsey of Iuka; an aunt, Linda Adams (Kenny) of Amory; 2 nephews, Jacob Owen “Jake” Evans and Lucas Reed “Luke” Evans; a niece, Anne Christian “Annie” Evans; 9 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Evans; his paternal grandparents, Owen and Daphne Elliott Evans of Smithville, MS and his maternal grandparents, Onnie and Vera Patton Christian of Fulton, MS.
