Charles Burris Hankins, Sr. – Obituary

Master Chief Charles Burris Hankins, Sr., U.S. Navy, Retired, age 89, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Mr. Hankins was born in Sulligent, AL on July 9, 1927 to John Burris Hankins and Susie McDonald Hankins.
Mr. Hankins retired from the United States Navy after 32 years of service, having served in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. His Naval career consisted of 13 tours of duty on United States Navy ships and 3 tours of shore duty. Mr. Hankins’ service also included two Around the World cruises. Upon retirement from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Hankins made his home in Florida. He had recently moved to the MS State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS.
Mr. Hankins is survived by two sons, Charles B. Hankins, Jr. (Susan) of Tupelo, MS and Billy J. Hankins (Melissa) of Eupora, MS. Grandchildren are Kimberly H. Neal (Aaron) of Catonsville, MD, Charles Burris Hankins, III of Tupelo, MS, Laura H. Prisock (Presly) of Starkville, MS, and Lindsey Hankins of Eupora, MS. Mr. Hankins is also survived by one great-grandson, Caleb Neal of Catonsville, MD, a sister, Margie Owen of Demopolis, AL, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hankins was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and mother of his children Evelyn C. Hankins, and his second wife Dorothy A. Hankins. An infant son Henry E. Hankins preceded him in death, as well as six sisters, Addine Stevens, Madge Moore, Vola Mize, Eloise Parker, Blanche Miller, and Jean Reynolds.

Mr. Hankins will be laid to rest at 11 AM, Monday, June 12, 2017 with Military Honors at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
