  Charles Albert Painter Profile PhotoCharles Albert Painter, age 88, of Columbia, TN, passed away June 12, 2026. Born in Kingston, West Virginia, on October 20, 1937, to the late Harless A. Painter (Lydia) and Beatrice Arnold. Charles grew up in Clintwood, Virginia, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. His favorite hobbies included canoeing, camping, bicycling, wood working, and tending to his azaleas. With a profound love for history and a spirit that felt at home in the 18th and 19th centuries, he took great joy in learning about the past and visiting historical sites wherever his travels took him. He never met a stranger and could effortlessly strike up a conversation with anyone. Charles retired from British Aerospace in 1994, where he headed the International Customs Department. He returned to school at the age of 48 to earn his degree in Maritime Law and Customs. Following his tenure at British Aerospace, he operated his own renovation company for ten years before permanently retiring in 2004.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Lou Painter and brother Kenneth Painter. He is survived by his brother Ronnie, three sisters Shirley, Lura, and Pat, stepson Vaughn Currier (Kelly), son Mitch (Jennifer), grandchildren Emily and Tristan Painter, daughter Tricia Katherine, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
