Charlene Dorothy Curtis, age 77 of Estill Springs, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. She was born October 3, 1943 in Gary, IN to the late William Herbst and Margaret Heinman Herbst. Charlene had been employed as an inspector at E and B Armstrong. She was a devoted Christian lady who adored her children and grandchildren and was the rock of the family. In her spare time, Charlene loved to play Bingo, work in her flower beds and watch crime shows, Big Brother and Survivor on television. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorla Catlin, Norene Miller, John Herbst, Daryl “Bud” Herbst and Barbara Fisher; son, Timothy Ray Curtis; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Curtis; and granddaughter, Lacey Curtis. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James C. Curtis of Estill Springs; son, Mark Curtis of Estill Springs; daughter, Susan Curtis of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Will (Sara) Curtis of Estill Springs, Kristen Payne of Estill Springs and Ashley Curtis of Melbourne, Australia; great-grandchildren, Emberly Payne, Arya Payne and special great-grandson, Anthony Curtis; special niece, Connie Nobles; siblings, Kay Jaggy and Bill Herbst; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 1-3 pm Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm in Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Richard Reed officiating.
