CecilCecil Ralph Phillips, 96, died March 21, 2013, with his son by his side in Florence, Alabama. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Lancaster officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.

Pallbearers will be Donald Olinger, Larry Wallingford, Sam Wallingford, Roger Fuller, Allen Johnson, and Billy Webb.

He was born on December 16, 1916, the oldest of 2 sisters and 1 brother, to Lee and Rosa Phillips in Woodville, Alabama. He moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama in 1942. He was preceded in death by Verna May Phillips, his wife of 42 years, and Eula Phillips, wife of 26 years.

Mr. Phillips worked for TVA clearing timber for the dams and later worked for Southern Railroad through the World War II years. He went to work for Reynolds in 1949 and retired after 30 years of service. He loved to hunt, garden, fish and spend time with his family. Mr. Phillips was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and was honored in 2008 as Deacon Emeritus for 20 years of service.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Phillips, daughter-in-law, Martha Phillips, stepsons, James and Roger Fuller, and grandchildren, Sonya Knight, Leslie Wood and spouse, Shannon, Shannon Joseph and spouse, Eugene, Sherrie Johnson and spouse, Allen, Heather Turner and spouse, Michael, and Ben Phillips. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Heath McCullough and spouse, Monica, Chance McCullough, Michael Woods, Dylan Woods, Miranda Johnson, Megan Johnson, Prestin Turner, Braden Turner, Madalynn Turner, and Michael Joseph, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Alacare of Decatur and his sitters, Barbara, Tina, Janice and Debra, for the excellent care and support during Mr. Phillips’ final days.
