Cecil Levon Cates

A funeral service for Cecil Levon Cates of Bremen will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 13th at Mt. Joy Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Reverend Horace Swann will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.

 

Mr. Cates was born on December 6, 1938 to the late Albert Cecil and Lillian (Washington) Cates in Blount County, Alabama. He died at the age of 83 on March 9, 2022 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

 

Survivors include his wife, Viva Lee Cates; children, Roy Cates, Randy (Amy) Cates, and Kim Cates; grandchildren, Monica Cates, Amanda (Cole) Freeman, Sarah Cates, Lucy Cates, and Eli Cates; siblings, Jewel Williams and Shirley Willoughby; daughter-in-law, Kim Cates; beloved dog Pepper; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cates was preceded in death by his son, Ron Cates; and brothers, Don Cates, Wayne Cates, and Mike Cates.
