CCW Fanfest: The (In)famous Golf Game

Each year, Continental Championship Wrestling host Fanfest in Dothan, Alabama.  I have written previous articles for this year’s events.  This is the last article in the series from Fanfest.  The previous articles can be found here:

However, I heard a rumor about an (in)famous Golf Game that happens the day before the Fanfest events.  I made an inquiry to “Mr. Olympia” Jerry Stubbs about this Golf Game.  Stubbs invited me to attend the golf game and take some pictures.

So at 9.00 AM on the Friday morning, I was at the Dothan Golf Club with camera in hand.  Soon the participants began to arrive.  They were:

Frankie “The Thumper” Lancaster

“Mr. Olympia” Jerry Stubbs

“Wildcat” Wendall Cooley

Johnny Rich

Davey Rich.

Davey Rich showed up dressed as a mascot for the University of Tennessee Mascot.  He had on an UT white and orange shirt, bright orange pants and red shoes with orange bottoms.  It was a sight to see.  His team mates did poke fun at him for his attire.

Jerry Stubbs was playing with an injury.  He showed it to me.  He had a bruise that basically went from his shoulder to his elbow.  He said that he thought that he might have torn his bicep.

While watching the Wrestlers get ready to play, Wendall Cooley went to the putting green.  He is as intense on the golf course as he is in the wrestling ring.

Frankie “The Thumper” Lancaster had that intense look on his face.  He came to play and was taking no prisoners.  Let me tell you a story about Frankie.  In one of my articles, I forgot to mention something about Lancaster.  So, on my off day, Frankie calls me, wakes me up, and begins to “bust my chops” about it.  Then he starts laughing saying he was just messing with me.  I guess he was bored that morning.

We come to Johnny Rich.  Johnny seemed happy to just be there.  I did see Johnny discussing strategy with the other players.  Could Johnny have been planning to possibly “cheat” at the golf game?  Surely not.

I took the following pictures and left.  Over that day and the next, I spoke to each one about the game separately.  The funny thing is every one of them told me that “they had won.”  Now wait a minute.  How can 5 guys play and all 5 win?   There was definitely some cheating going on at this golf game.   It was good to see and talk to the wrestlers in a relaxed state away from everyone.  They are normal guys, just laughing, joking and picking on each other.

If you every get invited to attend the golf game, be careful.  I believe there was some underhand stuff going on.
