Mrs. Catherine Stewart O’Rear of Hazel Green passed away on Tuesday while surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 and had been a life-long resident of Madison County.
Catherine was a devoted wife and mother. She had also worked outside the home in several positions including with the State National Bank in Huntsville, Huntsville City Schools at Lakewood Elementary School and Johnson High School, and Huntsville Utilities. Her last employment was serving with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department for more than 20 years where she worked as administrative assistant to Sheriff Joe Patterson and Sheriff Joe Whisante.
She loved crafts, quilting, and crocheting and spending time in the mountains of Gatlinburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin & Allie Stewart; Her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Alvin & Pearlie O”Rear; Her brothers, E.C. Stewart and Dickey Stewart.
Surviving family members include her husband of 64 years, Tommy O’Rear; Her daughter, Tammy (George) Daigle; Her daughter, Tina (Ryan) Barton; Her son, Scott (Marti) O’Rear; Her sister, Jan (Brett) Cook; Brothers: Marcus (Dodie) Stewart and Buster (Glenis) Stewart; Her sister-in-law, Judy Stewart. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30am until 1:30pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be at 2pm at Charity Cemetery with Pastor Lon Ostrzycki officiating.
Catherine will be forever remembered for her kindness, her quiet and reserved demeanor, her sense of humor, and her great love for her family.
