Catherine Porter Gutknecht, 62, of Gurley, AL, passed away Monday. Cathy graduated from Black River Falls High School in Black River Falls, WI and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where she received her master’s degree in special education. She retired after 33 years of teaching elementary school. She was a member of Rivertree Church at Owens Cross Road, AL. She volunteered at Huntsville Hospital and the Huntsville Public Library. Cathy was an avid traveler who loved history, camping, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Porter.
Survivors include husband, Donald Gutknecht; son, Joshua Gutknecht (Kristin) of Greeley, CO; daughter, Sarah Radovich (Nick) of Hazel Green, AL; grandchildren, Hunter, Calvin and Norah; father, Charles Porter (Barbara) of Lake Wales, FL; sisters, Patty Trout of Virginia, MN and Janet Martin of Davenport, IA; and brother, Charles R. Porter of Fort Smith, AR.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Rivertree Church with Ross Jaeger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
