Carroll Ray  Smith Carroll Ray Smith, age 82 of Huntland, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, he died at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born on May 9, 1939 in the Falls Mill Community to the late John W. and Pearl (Gunn) Smith. From an early age, Carroll Ray learned the value of family and hard work, both of which he loved and cherished. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. He was employed by American Standard for nineteen years prior to starting Smith Backhoe in July 1977, where he was currently the owner and operator. Carroll Ray enjoyed time spent on his farm with his cattle, horses, and mules. He especially loved the wagon train rides with family and friends. He cherished the time spent with all of his family and friends, especially his great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Brenda Arnold Smith; brothers, John Downey “Buck” Smith, James H. “Bussie” Smith, and Billy C. Smith; and sisters, Margaret Gulley, Annie Johnson, Georgia Stovall, and Florence Benson. He is survived by his loving children, Terry (Lisa) Smith of Huntland, Lisa (Mark) Wilkerson of Winchester, and Timmy (Jana) Smith of Huntland; grandchildren, Travis (Ana) Smith, Traci (Tim) Walden, Emily (Alex) Wilkerson Baker, Sarah Wilkerson, John (Dee) Wilkerson, Ashley Stinnett, Tyler (Bre) Smith, and Kara Smith; great-grandchildren, Asa Stinnett, Kinley Stinnett, Rebecca Walden, Anabella Smith, Waylon Wilkerson; and soon to arrive, Elena Smith; brother, Charles Smith of Huntland; twin sister, Carolyn Pickett of Winchester; dear friend, Betty Nelle Syler of Huntland; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish his memory. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 9, 2021 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Winston Tipps officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
