Carroll Bobb went home to his Lord at 84 years of age on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Carroll was born on November 25, 1940, in Chattanooga, TN to Hilda Bethea and Harry Hunley Bobb. Carroll was their only child and lived most of his childhood and college years in the Greenville, South Carolina area.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management from Clemson University. While at Clemson, Carroll was a distinguished graduate of the ROTC program and part of the Clemson swim team. He was immediately commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force upon graduation. During this time, Carroll married Mary Helen Putman on May 30, 1962.
Carroll and Mary were stationed in California as part of the Minuteman Missile program. While in California, they would have three sons – Garrett (Gary), Randolph (Randy) and Andrew (Andy). In 1968, he was assigned to an Air America Facility in Thailand as part of the Vietnam conflict and secret war in Laos. Carroll spent 13 months in Thailand and had many stories of this very difficult war and his assignment.
Upon returning home to the United States, Carroll had a very distinguished career in the Air Force. He focused on leading quality control standards for planes like the A10 Warthog fighter, F-15 fighter, and B1B bomber. During this time the family lived in North Carolina, Ohio, and Oklahoma. Carroll retired from the Air Force in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After his military career ended, Carroll worked in the defense industry for several companies including Rockwell, McDonnell Douglas and Morton Thiokol rising to executive positions with each. He moved to Huntsville, Alabama during his time with Morton Thiokol. In Alabama, he met and married Eva Marie Kennamer Thomas on August 11,1990. Carroll and Marie spent the last 15 years of his career at Thiokol in North Ogden, Utah. They moved back to Huntsville, Alabama to retire in 2011.
Carroll and Marie were very active members of Asbury Methodist Church and fell in love with the congregation and missions of the church. Carroll was a strong Christian and very active in the church and community proclaiming his faith through words and actions. You could find him involved in many groups at Asbury including: Steven’s Ministry, Men’s bible study, prayer warrior groups, men’s shelter and various charities.
