Carrol was born in Murray County, GA, to the late John Frank and Johnnie Patterson Bartenfield. She was reared in the Pleasant Grove Community of Whitfield County, GA. An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. As a member of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, she sang in the Hallelujah Choir and was active in senior activities as her health permitted.
