Carolyn Tulula Fike Hovis, 95, passed away peacefully at her nursing home, with her daughter and friend at her side on April 19, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Hovis Lewis (Clyde); granddaughter, Morgan Hovis Hasty; and daughter-in-law, Connie B. Hovis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Houston Bruce Hovis, son, Henry Hovis, granddaughter, Chelsea Hovis Standifer, two sisters, two brothers, mother and father.
Although she was not a trained nurse, she did a lot of home health care, and held a variety of jobs. The last 72 years, she resided mostly in Huntsville. She was active in the Dental Auxiliary, The Lioness Club, and Covenant Presbyterian Church, of which she was a charter member. In her last four years, she became a beloved resident at Madison Manor Nursing Home, where she participated in all the activities, and was always helping out new residents and nurses alike. She was a nurturer of all she met and was loved by all. Mrs. Hovis was an avid gardener, reader, and seamstress.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21st at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22nd at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church Music Fund, Helping Hand Fund, Comfort Care Hospice, or The American Heart Association.
