F.04.17.24 Carolyn Sanders Denton.jpgCarolyn Sanders Denton was peacefully called home to Heaven to join her beloved husband, Buck, on April 13, 2024, in Florence, Alabama.

Carolyn was born to Ruby Williams Sanders and Ralph C. Sanders on March 13, 1943, the third of three children. She was predeceased by her parents and older brother, Clark Sanders. She is survived by sons, Keith Denton (Michele) and Kevin Denton (Barbara); grandsons, Trevor Denton, Matthew Denton (Sallie), Stephen Denton (Caroline), and Philip Denton; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Gary Sanders; a niece; nephews; and cousins. She also leaves behind many dear friends.

Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, Carolyn grew up in Franklin County, graduated from Vina High School and lived most of her life in Colbert County. Together with Buck, she raised her two boys in Sheffield, while working in the payroll office at Occidental Chemicals in Muscle Shoals. Carolyn retired from Oxy after more than 20 years of service, and spent the next 30 years alongside Buck, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and raising goats. Every year brought plenty of vegetables and fruits for canning and sharing. She was an avid quilter and was happiest when working on one of her famous, beautiful quilts for friends and family. She was also a dog lover and delighted in spoiling each one of her many pet dogs – Sunshine, Sam, and Lucy. Throughout her life, Carolyn was a member at several area Baptist churches, often looking in on elderly and shut-in members. She was always happy to have visits from friends and relatives and often sent them home with fresh or canned vegetables, or, if you were lucky, a pint of her and Buck’s secret recipe hot slaw.

Visitation will be Thursday April 18, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Morrison Funeral Home, 825 N Main St., Tuscumbia, Alabama. A graveside service will follow at Barton Cemetery, Cherokee, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Billy George officiating.

Pallbearers are Trevor Denton, Matthew Denton, Stephen Denton, Philip Denton, Shane Nipper, and Larry Sanders.

Memorial gifts may be made to Shoals Women’s Clinic or the charity of your choice.
