Carolyn Prestage Chatham – Obituary

Carolyn Prestage Chatham, 74, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, at her residence. She was born January 15, 1939 to the late Gaddis Prestage and late Marie Spradling Prestage. She married her husband, James A. Chatham in 1957. She was a faithful member of the Fulton United Methodist Church since 1955 by Confession of Faith, where she served on the Administrative Board, taught Sunday School class and MYF. She was active in the Working Day Camp in the summer, teaching disciple classes, and serving as Sunday School Superintendent.

Carolyn also served on the Pastor-Parrish Committee, Lay Leadership Committee, and she enjoyed serving as a Lay Speaker to local churches in Itawamba County. With her love for her church and church family, she served as co-chairman for “Because We Care” Committee and when her health allowed, she worked with the Food Pantry at the church.

She attended Itawamba Agricultural High School, and the University of Mississippi, where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Education. She taught at Church Street Elementary, Tremont Jr. High and High School and Fulton Elementary before her retirement in 1983, which was the year she also received the Teacher of The Year Award.

Officiating will be Rev. Philip Box, Rev. Glyn Wiygul, Mary Jo Gosa, and Larry Pate.

She is survived by her Husband – James A. Chatham, Son – Brad (Missi) Chatham of Fulton, MS; Daughter – Carol-Leigh Harvey of Humble, TX; 3 Grandsons – Colin Chatham of Fulton, MS, Jordan Chatham of Fulton, MS, Brennen Chatham of Fulton, MS; 3 Granddaughters – Jade Chatham of Fulton, MS, Madison Harvey of Humble, TX, Payton Harvey of Humble, TX; Special Aunt – Eva Lois Johnson of Fulton, MS; Sister in Law – Linda (Don) Prestage Holcomb, and Several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Gaddis Prestage, Mother, Marie Spradling Prestage, Brother, Kelly Wade Prestage
Pallbearers will be Larry Pate,San Weatherford, Judy Nabors, Mary Gosa, Jo Bates ,Drew Homan, Luzerne Wheeler, Jack Creely.
