Carolyn Joan (Goza) Cleveland – Obituary

Carolyn Joan (Goza) Cleveland, 78 was born in Birmingham AL on April 25, 1938 and passed away on April 10, 2017. She moved to Tuscumbia when she was three years old and graduated from Deshler High School in 1956 and the University of North Alabama in 1975. While at Deshler she met her husband, Gene Cleveland and they were married on December 28, 1957 and last year celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Joan loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tuscumbia and also the North Naples United Methodist Church in Naples FL. She was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority before her retirement and was also a member of the National Secretaries Association. She was past President of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Women, Member of the Finance Committee of the United Methodist Women and also served as the Chair of the Pacific Rim Committee of the United Methodist Committee On Relief.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Margaret (Mewbourne) Goza. She is survived by her loving husband Gene Cleveland of Tuscumbia, son Joe Cleveland (Debbie) and grandsons Dalton Cleveland and Dylan Cleveland of Naples, FL. She enjoyed attending church and church activities, having lunch with her friends and attending family outings. A big sports fan, she enjoyed watching Alabama football and cheering on her grandsons at their baseball games and attending their school performances.

The services will be held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Tuscumbia, 104 E. Third Street, Tuscumbia, AL 35674. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until noon, with the funeral service at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, Tuscumbia, in her memory.
