Carolyn Carey Tweedy of Decatur, Alabama, entered Heaven in the presence of her Living Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 4, 2026. She was born in Decatur on July 1, 1933, the only child of Loudie Pointer Carey and Cecil Vernon Carey.

Although Carolyn lived in several places during her childhood, Decatur always remained home in her heart. She graduated from high school in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, before attending Auburn University. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert Howell “Bob” Tweedy, III. Carolyn and Bob were married on August 5, 1952, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. They made their home in Decatur, where they raised their family and shared nearly 60 years of marriage before Bob’s death.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bob, and her son, Robert Foster Tweedy.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Carey Tweedy Key (Gil) and Margie Tweedy Thompson (Skip). She also leaves behind her eight grandchildren, Robert Tweedy, Katy Mac Tweedy Dillon (Brent), Liza Lee Tweedy Horton (Dawson), Carolyn Key Wardlaw (Nick), Wilson Key, Bob Thompson (Melanie), Sam Thompson (Tara), and Lou Ellen Thompson Schweers (Christian), as well as twelve great-grandchildren.

At the age of 30, Carolyn gave her life to Christ and faithfully served the Lord for the remainder of her life. Through the years she was able to help in the beginning of the SAV-A-LIFE ministry, which was so dear to her heart. She was instrumental in bringing Community Bible Study to Decatur and, along with Bob, touched the lives of countless teenage girls through their weekly morning Bible Studies and breakfasts. Her faith was not simply something she professed – it was a meaningful part of how she lived and how she loved others.

Carolyn will also be remembered by the many children and families who shared time with her at Happy Way Kindergarten, which she lovingly operated in her home. An artist and gracious hostess, Carolyn delighted in sharing her southern hospitality, creativity and her home with others. Some of her happiest times were spent in her beloved Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, where she created countless memories with family and friends.

Carolyn leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, hospitality, creativity, and devotion to family and friends. Her life touched generations, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. She experienced an abundant life with the Joy of the Lord as her strength.

The family is especially grateful for Kathy Hobbs, Carolyn’s dear friend and caregiver for 32 years. They extend their heartfelt appreciation for Kathy’s steadfast kindness, companionship, and love.

Special thanks are also extended to the many wonderful caregivers who lovingly cared for Carolyn during the final years of her life. The family is also deeply grateful to the caring nurses of Hospice of the Valley for the comfort and support they provided.

A Celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at 2 o’clock on Wednesday, October 7 at First Bible Church of Decatur. Visitation will precede the service at 1 o’clock in the Coffee Commons.

Carolyn’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers, a fitting tribute to the love and special bond they shared with her.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Carolyn’s memory to consider making a donation to Hospice of the Valley, Sav-A-Life Pregnancy Resource Center, or The Neighborhood Christian Center.
