Carolyn Breaux McCrory, of Florence, Alabama, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth.
Mrs. McCrory was born on Oct. 5, 1922, in Demopolis, Alabama, and moved to Sheffield, Alabama, at the age of 12. She graduated Sheffield High School, Montevallo College, and later, also, graduated from Florence State Teachers College. She was a teacher in Tuscumbia City Schools, and in the Sheffield City Schools she was a school librarian. Mrs. McCrory was a founding member of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library Friends Bookstore and continued volunteering there. Mrs. McCrory was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs. McCrory was the daughter of Joseph O’Dillon Breaux and Berta DeVan Dumas. She was the wife of the late John Drake McCrory. Mrs. McCrory is survived by her brother, Joseph O’Dillon Breaux Jr.; five children, Nancy McCrory Hill (Gary), of Killen, Alabama, John Smith McCrory, of Birmingham, Alabama, Leslie Dumas McCrory, of Asheville, North Carolina, Bess Rice McCrory, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Janie McCrory Novell (Lester), of Florence, Alabama; and six grandchildren, Nathan McCrory Hill, of Birmingham, Alabama, Christopher Breaux Hill, of Florence, Alabama, Handley Breaux McCrory and John Smith McCrory Jr., both of Birmingham, Searcy Cochran Novell and Caroline McCrory Norvell, both of Florence, Alabama.
There will be a visitation at Greenview Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Samuel U. Hardie. There will be a private family graveside burial.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Rice, Dr. Stephen Rice, Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Dick Jordan, Elliott Colebeck, Mike Carter, Bill Norvell, Robert Redd, Brown Nolan and Robert Tyree.
