Carol Mitchell Clemmons, 86, of Montgomery, AL passed away peacefully Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by family. At her request there will be a private Entombment Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Serenity Trellis Niche at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Clemmons was born in Columbus, MS but spent the majority of her life in Tuscumbia and Russellville where her husband served as Superintendent of City Schools. After raising her children, she attended college later in life eventually earning an Administrative Assistant degree and later proudly earning her Nursing degree. She retired as an LPN after many years with Hellen Keller Hospital.
She spent her retirement years traveling with her husband and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren before eventually moving to Montgomery following her husband’s passing to be closer to her son. Mrs. Clemmons was loving and giving of herself to both family and friends and remained a member of Russellville First United Methodist Church even after relocating to Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Robert W. Clemmons, daughter Christie Carrick, granddaughter Alexandria Trevino, parents E.C. Mitchell and Weenonah Mitchell and sister Valerie Fox.
She is survived by her son Greg (Leigh); grandchildren Mitchell (Georgianna), William (Becky), Miller (Ashtyn), Anna and Cheyanne; great grandchildren Briana, Robert, Graham, Emarie, E.J. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to nurse Gwen with Baptist Palliative Care, Baptist Hospice of Montgomery and her loving daughter in law, Leigh, who cared for her in ways no one else could.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Baptist Hospice of Montgomery.
