Mrs. Carol Jean Smallwood Carol Chafin Smallwood, 76, of Union Grove passed away on 11/25/2023, at Shepherds Cove. She was born on May 3, 1947 in Geraldine, AL to Ray Chafin and Modist Pike-Chafin. She graduated from Geraldine High School in 1965. She was married to Roy “Junior” Smallwood for 41 years.

Carol, known to many as “Mrs. C.,” enjoyed working in her flower beds, bird watching, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was well known by many for her famous pecan pies and baked beans. She was an active member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Junior, children Cindy (Bill) Moore, Kellie (Rodney) Gibson, Randy (Cindy) Smallwood, stepdaughter Susan Smallwood, sisters Judy (Neal) Johnson and Ella (Mike) Ivey, grandchildren Parker Moore, Devin Wray, Kayla (Brad) Hudson, Cad (Meagan) Smallwood, David Lee Smallwood, Jr., Angie (Kevin) Hon, great grandchildren Roland, Hunter, Brodie, and Levi Smallwood, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kay Pittman, brother James “Jim” Chafin, granddaughter Hannah Moon, and stepson David Lee Smallwood, Sr.
A visitation to honor Carol’s life will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Alabama. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesaday, November 28, 2023 at the Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hayes, Kevin Tucker, Lamar Mullinax, and nephews Danny Pittman, Terry Pittman, and Deron “Bubba” Johnson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gideon Ewing, Dr. Tom Payne, and the staff of Marshall Medical Cancer Center for their loving care during Carol’s battle with cancer. The family would also like to thank the phenomenal, loving, and caring staff at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shepherds Cove.
