Graveside services for Mrs. Carlynn Hodnett Ward Alexander, age 95 of Jacksonville, formerly of Clay County were held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Lineville City Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Colquett officiating.
Mrs. Alexander passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Jacksonville Health and Rehab. Born in Clay County, she graduated from Lineville High school. She traveled and lived in many places, including Mobile, Phenix City, Anniston, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and Prattville. She worked for the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources and also with the Disability Determination Department. She was a Baptist by faith and loved to play bridge and had reached the status of “Life Master Bridge Player.
She is survived by two daughters: Cheri Lynn Gay of Alexandria and Pamela Butler (Joe) of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren: Richard Layton, Stephen Gay, both of Ashville, NC, and Brian Gay of Jacksonville; seven great-grandchildren: Kaleb Gay, Makayla Gay, Makenley Gay, Mallory Gay, Jack Layton, Bee Layton and Lulu Layton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl F. Hodnett and Elsie Callaway Hodnett; her husbands, Charles Ward and Bill Alexander; her son, Larry Ward; her sister, Marie Sims; her brother, Bobby Hodnett and one infant brother.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
