Carl Thomas (Tommy) Coats passed into eternity while at home Saturday, January 14th 2023. Tommy was a life-long resident of Florence who loved traveling, spending time with his family, doing yardwork, working at Coats Electric Co., Inc., and throwing green ball for his dog, Bernie. Tommy was a 1970 Graduate of Coffee High School where he was a three-year letterman in varsity football and track. While at Coffee High he met Andrea Jeanette Erwin who would be his loving wife for the next 52 years. Tommy entered the electrical supply business at eighteen years old and owned and operated the successful electrical contracting business, Coats Electric Co., Inc. for the last 47 years. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Tommy Lee (Coty) Coats and Aline Watson Coats. He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Coats. Brothers Roger Lee Coats, Anthony Wayne Coats, and sister Teresa Kaye Coats. His sons Thomas Michael Coats, Joseph Scott Coats, daughter Ashley Susannah Ray, daughters-in-law Hillary Coats and Misty Coats, and Son-in-law Jesse Ray. His Grandchildren Minton Tanner Coats, Thomas Jacob Coats, Charlotte Abigail Coats, Annsley Claire Coats, Aiden Davis Ray, Mary Margaret Coats, Isaac Carter Ray, and Thomas William Coats. He was a great friend and loving father and will be missed very much.
Services will be held at Greenview Memorial in Florence, AL on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Visitation will be from 12pm – 2pm with the funeral service beginning at 2pm. Graveside will be at Tri-Cities following the service.
