Carl George Peters – Obituary

Carl George Peters, 72, of Florence passed away on April 02, 2015. He attended St. Michael’s school in St. Florian and Rogers High School. He graduated from Coffee High School and attended Florence State for a year and he received an associate’s degree from Northwest Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where he enjoyed working with their Christmas sharing program. He also enjoyed working with Loaves and Fishes. Carl was a kind and generous man who was always ready to help anyone in need.

He was a former member of The Knights of Columbus. He began working as a young boy at Kasmeier store and went on to own and operate Carl’s Cash Grocery and G & C Supermarket in St. Florian. He also worked for a time as an electrician at Reynolds Metals Company and as a teamster at Brown’s Ferry.

Visitation will be Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church from 5 – 7 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Jacob Amos O.S.B., on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Military funeral honors will be accorded at graveside.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his parents, George Martin Peters and Frances L. Peters and his brother Steve J. Peters.

Survivors include his wife Betty Schmidlkofer Peters; sons, Barry Keith Peters (Melissa) and Gregory George Peters (Leigh Ann); brother, Gene C. Peters, and grandchildren, Blake Ryan Peters, Chaney Rose Peters and Chandler Martin Peters.

Active pallbearers will be Hugh L. Gresham, Glen Bramlett, Michael Stumpe, Chris Connolly, Adrian Shelton and Wesley Saylers.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Berrens, Danny Schmidlkofer, Billy Moore, Johnny Blackstock, Billy Richardson, and John Connolly.

The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to the entire staff at Harbart Hills Academy Nursing Home for all of their love expressed to our family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Loaves and Fishes and Christmas Sharing at St. Michael’s or the American Cancer Society.
