Mr. Carl Clifton Loftin, 92, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at North MS Medical Center, Hospice Unit following an extended illness. He was born in the Eggville Community on September 22, 1926 to James Clifton Loftin and Nezzie Lee Brock Loftin. He lived his entire life on the land where he was born. Mr. Loftin loved his country, serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On June 14, 1947 he married Jimmie Lou Johnson in Lee County, MS. Carl worked at DayBrite Lighting Co./Phillips Lighting for nearly 20 years; he was the owner of Eggville Grocery for over 20 years, and retired from Renasant Bank. He served on the Board of Eggville Fire Department and donated the land for the fire station. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping, and cooking especially breakfast. Carl was a beloved soul to his family and his countless friends in the Eggville Community where he was well respected and admired.
A celebration of Carl’s life and home-going will be at 2 PM, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy where he was a longtime faithful member and served as a Deacon. The officials will be Pastor Ryan Napalo, Bro. Billy West, and Bro. Curtis Shelton. Private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 PM – 7 PM and Saturday from 12 noon to service time, all at the church. Holland Funeral Directors Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Jimmie Lou Loftin of Eggville community; children, Carl Wayne Loftin and Kathy Loftin West (Billy), all of Eggville community; brother, Hugh “Red” Loftin (Wanda) of Eggville community and sister, Jo Evelyn Loftin Turner of Clearwater, FL; 2 grandchildren, Barry West (Mary Ann) of Eggville community, and Pernecia West Clark (Shane) of Alexander City, AL; 4 great-grandchildren, Adrianna West Carpenter (Lance) of Flowood, MS, Carlee Clark Scott (Grayson) of Opelika, AL, Alexandria West of Eggville, and Devin Clark of Alexander City, AL; special friends, Tyler and Haley Herring and their daughter, Eva of Plantersville. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Farris Loftin, Rayvon Loftin, Homer Loftin; sisters, Avo Loftin, Ruby Brooks, and Lenaree Keith; special friend Stacey “Bud” Fontenot.
Pallbearers will be Eggville Fire department volunteers and honorary pallbearers will be the Union Grove deacons. Memorials may be made to Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy at 468 Co Rd 1650, Mooreville, MS 38857.
